The Christian life was never meant to be just 'Jesus and me', but 'Jesus and we' and so at Sovereign Grace Church we seek to genuinely practice 'doing life together'. While we are joined to all believers in the local church, Life Groups give us the opportunity to build relationships and cultivate fellowship with around 12-20 others in our community, a small group of people that we can do life with.
John Stott writes,
"The value of a small group is that it can become a community of related persons, and in it the benefit of relatedness cannot be missed nor its challenge evaded. I do not think it is an exaggeration to say, therefore, that small groups are indispensable for our growth into spiritual maturity"
Purpose
The purpose of all of our Life Groups are the same...
1. Application of God's Word to our lives. Merely hearing God's Word is insufficient; we must apply it to our lives for their to be fruit. Life Groups enable us to do this together. We seek to apply the Bible's teaching, review Sunday
messages, discuss Christian books, and use a variety of other resources with the intention of growing in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
2. Pursuit of Biblical fellowship. Genuine fellowship isn't practical in a large crowd. Life Groups provide a place where we can build intimate relationships, care for one another, and help each other grow in our relationship with God.
3. Ministry to one another. God has made us dependent upon each other, and Life Groups provide a context where we can minister to each other using the gifts that God has given us. Whether it be praying for or encouraging folk,
providing a meal for a family with a newborn, or networking to help an individual locate a job or new accommodation.
One of the main drives of Life Group is to truly do life together in this way, bringing our gifts to bear as we do.
When & Where?
Life Groups meet twice a month, with an additional once a month seperate meeting for men and women. All meetings take place in peoples homes, kicking off around 7.30pm.
We meet in various locations in Northern Sydney and so wherever you are coming from, we should have something close for you to get involved in.
How do I get involved?
The pathway to involvement in Life Groups is through Starting Point, our ten week new members class. Starting Point is for all those who are new to Sovereign Grace Church, and provides a great way for you to connect with our pastor, beliefs and values as you consider whether or not you'd like to make this church your home.
Once this course is completed, participants have the opportunity to become members of Sovereign Grace Church and we chat then about which Life Group may work well for you.
