Monday 22nd of November 2010 | Posted by Dave Taylor Books For The Lane
Just over a week ago now I had the privilege of preaching through Eph 2:1-10, taking us on the Apostle Paul's
"Trip Down Memory Lane."Taking this walk over a morning is always such a thrill. To be reminded of who we were... dead, lost, buried, objects of wrath. And then in Christ, who we are now... alive, raised, objects of His ongoing grace. Oh what an incredible walk Ephesians 2 is!
If you missed the message and would like to take the walk then click above... May God meet you on the lane my friends!
This blog and the next, is my keen desire to follow up my closing exhortation to make sure we 'regularly' take this walk down memory lane. We can never take this walk too often, but we can I believe, take it too little. And so over this week I'm going to be writing two posts. The first one here is called: 'Books for the lane', and the second 'Songs for the lane'.
There are so many great books out there on the Gospel. Books that will help us to take the 'walk down memory lane' as we read them, and so in a desire to serve, if you're not sure where to start here's my top three for you:
TRANSFORMING GRACE
I read this book for the first time about 15 years ago, and quite simply it changed my life!
It's so easy to think and act as if the exceeding riches of God's grace run out the moment we're saved. That from the moment of salvation, our relationship with God is based upon our performance rather than His grace. I know it... I've done it!
This fantastic book by Jerry Bridges is the product of over 10 years of Bible study and stands as a fountainhead of inspiration and renewal for anyone who wishes to experience God's grace more fully in daily life. This book is gold!
LIVING THE CROSS CENTERED LIFE
Do you desire more passion for Jesus Christ? Then return to the very essence of your faith - the cross of Christ. Here, the deepest truths of Calvary will stir your passion for Him into an unquenchable fire.
"Never lay it aside. Never move on", says C.J.Mahaney who shows you how to center every day around the life-giving reality of the gospel and how to escape the pitfalls of legalism, condemnation, and feelings-driven faith.
This book is an absolute classic, and is one to turn to not just once, but time and time again. I love it!
THE GREAT WORK OF THE GOSPEL
With a foreword by John Piper, this book is another classic for the individual who wants to make the walk down memory lane many times over.
Forgiveness is God's Great Work because sin is the greatest of problems, the cross is the most excellent of solutions, and grace produces the most extreme of changes. It is all-inclusive and everlasting.
In this book John Ensor helps us to grasp the reality and human experience of God's ongoing, outworking, wonderful grace.
All these books are available on our Sovereign Grace bookstall every Sunday... If you'd like one, see ya there!!
