Tuesday 20th of September 2011 | Posted by Dave Taylor Pray For Other Churches In Sydney
It was quite a few weeks ago now that we looked together at Ephesians 6.18-24,
'Fully Dressed and on Our Knees'. When people pray there's no doubt that incredible things can and do happen. In 'prayer' we have an incredible weapon at our finger tips, along with the Lord's call to use it - 'at all times', 'with all kinds of prayers', 'with all perseverance', 'for all the saints'. There's no doubting the importance that Paul places on prayer, and so as we continue this blog series on prayer I want to direct our attention to 'others' outside of Sovereign Grace Church.
In the last twelve months I have had the pleasure of meeting many pastors in Sydney. Men I deeply respect, leading Churches that I seek to uphold in prayer. Hoping that you might like to join me in this prayerful endeavor I recently wrote to a few of the men asking how we could pray for them, here's what they said...
Steve Chong - Kirkplace Presbyterian Church (www.kirkplace.org.au)God is bringing so many new people to our church each week which is wonderful but also quite disorientating! Pray that God will keep us focused on loving him and loving others and not just the crowds.
Like you we are convinced we need to be a people who pray more. Pray that God burdens our hearts for prayer!
Hans Kristensen - Resolved Church (www.resolved.org.au)We have a lot of new people coming through our doors so please p[ray we can minister to them effectively.
I am getting a lot of speaking gigs around so pray for wisdom to know which ones I should take and which ones I should leave.
Pray for me and my wife as we are expecting.
Pray for us as a church to be more missionally motivated
Pray for revival in our church and across this land.
Paul Dale - Church By The Bridge, Kirribilli (www.cbtb.org.au)GIve thanks to God for new congregations, people coming to faith in Jesus, provision of new staff and new office space, and for opposition we are facing (because of the gospel!)
Pray for ongoing outreach into our diverse community (from housing commission to Prime Minister) in both word and deed, that our church would see their whole lives as being missional, and that we would continue to show humility and generosity
Adam Witanowski - White Horse Church Pyrmont (www.whitehorsechurch.com.au)That God would save the people we are being missional to and that we would be opportunistic in sharing the gospel in those gospel opportunities we have (There are about 150 names that we are being really intentional to, eating with, celebrating with, recreating with, etc... ). We are starting to see those names get ticked off one by one, but would love to see a whole new list and 3 times as long.
Boldness in presenting the gospel (for the WH peeps) and that this wouldn't just be something we do to those that aren't yet family but to those who are (we need it too... its all we have got).
New location as we have outgrown our current space and are running at about 120% each week, and with space at a premium it may be hard to find a loco... for God however, all things are possible.
Toby Neal - Vine Church (www.vinechurch.com.au)Please pray that God would open the eyes and hearts of all who have come into our community.
And that we would combine missional living with an active presence in Surry Hills through Hope for Sydney and soon a Christmas event. Ask God to supply all we need to run a carols event with good music, relaxed vibe and with Jesus on the agenda.
Justin Moffatt - St Philip's, York Street. (www.yorkstreetanglican.com)That God would get at us, through us and in us for Christ's glory. (loving that prayer now..) I guess we are fairly immature, which helps for evangelism (our people are in touch with their non-xn friends), but we need God to keep shaping us to be more like Christ. More mature. But not at the expense of mission.
Some evangelistic things we've been doing: 3 Life of Jesus Courses, marriage courses for peeps getting married, a homeless lunch ( 2 guys coming now to PM church), a children's outreach to the urban kids with Sally Lloyd-Jones. Pray that we keep up the mission.
Folks what a privilege it is to stand alongside these and many other Churches in Sydney in prayer... Let's hit our knees my friends!!
